about 9:00 – you don’t need sex; it’s like electricity – you can harness it and use it in the right time and place and it will bless you, or it can shock your relationship

Another potential resource for sharing with young men about pornography: actor/former NFL player Terry Crews opened up about his own experience with pornography addiction in creating a series of short videos that he posted on his Facebook page in February of 2016. CNN wrote an article about his videos and the responses he was getting to them. You might choose to share the article and/or one or more of the videos.

Another potential resource for discussing modesty with young women (to show or just for you): fashion designer, actor, and speaker Jessica Rey speaks on the evolution of the swimsuit. Most helpful starts at 3:59 when she shares on a Princeton study finding that when men view images of women in little clothing, the area of the brain that lights up is that which engages when viewing tools like screwdrivers and hammers, and the part which lights up when thinking about another person’s thoughts or emotions has little to no response. She shares a separate Princeton study that also concluded that men viewing women in bikinis see them as objects (based on associated first- or third-person verbs). She goes on to discuss misconceptions about modesty and her own experience that led to her designing modest and fashionable swimsuits, taking always classy Audrey Hepburn as her inspiration.

And another resource for discussing porn: a blog post describing how a man finally quit porn after years of struggle and shame, focusing on God’s great love and the love that must motivate our actions rather than a fear of hell.
